Scope: Refurbishment of top sash windows and redecoration of cast iron rainwater goods
Brief
Hallmark Bespoke Decorating was engaged to refurbish weathered external joinery and restore the appearance and protection of cast iron pipework on a Grade II listed property.
Our Approach
Top Sash Windows
- Thoroughly prepared all exterior timber surfaces.
- Spot-primed weathered areas with Zinsser Cover Stain to seal and stabilise the substrate.
- Applied two coats of Zinsser AllCoat (Exterior) to achieve a durable, uniform finish.
Cast Iron Rainwater Goods
- Removed loose and flaking coatings by thorough wire brushing to a clean, sound surface.
- Applied Zinsser Peel Stop to consolidate and bind previously mismatched paint layers.
- Finished with Johnstone’s Smooth Metal Paint, applied using an HVLP sprayer for a consistent, even finish.
Materials Used
- Zinsser Cover Stain (primer/sealer)
- Zinsser AllCoat (Exterior)
- Zinsser Peel Stop (stabilising/binding coat)
- Johnstone’s Smooth Metal Paint
Result
A sympathetic, long-lasting refurbishment that enhances the property’s appearance while providing robust protection to both timber and cast iron elements. The HVLP application delivered a smooth, consistent finish appropriate for the character of a listed building.
